2012 Brut

Gourmet Traveller Wine’s Score: 92

“This lively aperitif style has a light, bright yellow hue and a typical blanc de blanc bouquet of straw and egg custard. It’s crisp and refined in the mouth with focus, intensity and persistence, finishing with lip-smacking dryness and energising acidity.”

The hand harvested Chardonnay was whole bunch pressed with minimal rotations to maintain the delicacy of the structure, the juice was clarified then fermented to dryness in stainless steel tank. The base wine was tiraged in August 2012, and the wine remained on lees in bottle until November 2015. It was disgorged and a small dosage added for balance.

2015 Sauvignon Blanc

“Whole bunch-pressed directly to used oak for fermentation, lees contact and stirring, bottled August. A thoroughly impressive and powerful sauvignon in the style of the late Didier Dageneau (Loire Valley, France). Its flavour spectrum is on the savoury side, oak imparting texture and not subverting the complex and intense mix of herb and blackcurrant (yes!) flavours. “

2014 Chardonnay

“Estate-grown, hand-picked 7 and 13 March, barrel-fermented in French oak (20% new), bottled 15 February. Tiny berries gave rise to a derisory 1t/ha (less than half a tonne per acre) crop, hence the intensity of this wine; grapefruit leads the way, white peach and nutty notes also in close attendance. The cost of production must have been greater than the price of the wine.”

2015 Rosé

“Light smokiness and funk, red fruits, slight spice and creaminess. lovely weight and delivery of flavour with its subtle glycerol texture and fresh picked strawberry acidity. Finish is clean and fresh. You can ask a bit of this wine, or just settle back and smash it. Either way.”

“Made from purpose-grown d5v12 clone pinot noir, hand-picked and destemmed into the press for 24 hours skin contact before pressing, unclarified juice fermented in used oak, one-third allowed to go through mlf. Pale pink, with wafts of strawberries and red cherries on the bouquet; while structurally restrained, the flavours of red berries and fruits coat the fore and mid-palate. Easy going.”

2013 Pinot Noir

“Intense, clear purple-crimson; the evocative bouquet has blanched black cherry and cherry pip aromas, the palate delivering in spades all the promise of the bouquet; it has great length, line and balance, the dark cherry flavours coating the mouth, yet doing so without effort (or extraction).” Included in the 2016 Wine Companion’s ‘best of the best’ list.

2013 O’Leary Block Pinot Noir

“The first time this block has been bottled (ie not blended), and it’s not hard to see why. The fragrant cherry blossom bouquet heralds the red fruits of the elegant, but intense, palate, with nuances of forest floor providing the framework for the long, lingering finish.”

2013 Cabernet Sauvignon

This charismatic cool climate cabernet smells evocatively of crème de cassis, cedar and chocolate, and is distinguished by a lean body that highlights the elegance of this noble grape.  With flavours of blackcurrant, savoury dried herb and aniseed, and gentle tannins, this refined wine is a delight.  Cellaring will be rewarded.
